November 7th, 2012: Chris Atkins with “Media manipulation, from Hillsborough to Leveson”
Tickets: from £3.50 online (£5 on the door)
Covering a range of topics from bad press coverage of Hillsborough to a deconstruction of tabloid hacks’ evidence to the Leveson Inquiry, the man behind StarSuckers unpicks the lies newspapers use to twist stories to fit their own agendas.
Chris Atkins is an independent film maker, who made the BAFTA nominated feature documentary Taking Liberties in 2007, which took an entertaining swipe at the Blair government for eroding our civil liberties. His second film Starsuckers was about the celebrity obsessed media, which gained notoriety for selling fake celebrity stories to the tabloids. It was released in cinemas in 2009 to critical acclaim, despite being threatened with legal action by Max Clifford, the News of The World and Bob Geldof. He recently went undercover for a year to expose the black market in illegal information for Channel 4’s Dispatches.
